Please keep the boring footage.

There is a particular kind of old video worth looking for: the bit between the things somebody meant to film.

The walk from the parking lot. A few seconds in the kitchen. A store in the background of a vacation. Someone testing the camera in a room they had no reason to document.

Those little moments preserve the details that are easiest to lose. Nobody makes a formal announcement when a sign comes down or a familiar room gets remodeled. One day the version you remember is simply gone.

If you are going through old tapes or photographs, keep the original files and write down what you know. Approximate dates are useful. A location, a person’s name, or who held the camera can help make sense of it later.

Please also think about who appears in the material and who owns it before sharing. Finding a clip online does not make it yours to authorize. You can send Echoes a source lead without claiming ownership.
